Basic Informations about her childhood and youth

Rihanna was born on the 20th Feburary 1988 in Saint Michael as Robyn Rihanna Fenty. Her mother was Accountant and her father worked as a shelf worker for a fashion label. However, her dad was addicted to drugs and beaten her mother regularly until they divorced 14 years later. Rihanna has 2 younger brothers and 3 half-siblings from her fathers side. She visited Charles F. Broome Memorial School and in 2004 Combermere, where she signed up for a beauty contest and won, which gave her the title Miss Combermere School. As a teenager she joined the military and trained with them. In 2007 to 2009 she got together with Chris Brown, which relationship ended in a violent way. 

Start of her music career

Her music career started in 2003 when she founded a band with both of her friends. In the same year, they got introduced to the producer Evan Rogers. However, after they performend, Rihanna had to sing alone and got a mini album with 3 covers and her first single "Pon de Replay". Def Jam took her under subcontract in New York. After releasing the single, the song got 2nd in the world-wide charts.
In October 2005, work began on her second album, A Girl Like Me, whose single SOS became Rihanna's first number one hit in the US. The second single released was Unfaithful, which also became successful worldwide. The single reached the top 10 of the charts in 18 countries and number one in Canada and Switzerland. In June 2007, the album Good Girl Gone Bad was released, which became an international top 10 hit. With over nine million records sold worldwide, it is their most successful album to date. The first single, Umbrella, sold over six million copies and is one of the most successful hits worldwide, but also gave her her first Grammy. 

Concerts and music after 2009 and her first actress experience

Rihanna worked on her fourth album, but the concert that was suppose to happen in 2009 got cancelled because of the incident with her Ex-Boyfriend Chris Brown. This influenced the creating of the album immensly. For the first time, Rihanna herself helped wirting the lyrics, co-produced some songs, and was allowed to determine the album's concept. The album Rated R was released in November, selling over three million copies. Rihanna received consistently good to very good reviews, as it "shows a more serious, adult Rihanna who has something to say". This shows that she grew in character, after an abusive relationship and wanted her voice to be heard. Rihanna's fifth album Loud was released in November 2010. The album managed to reach number one on the UK and Swiss album charts and was included in numerous top 10 lists internationally. It sold over eight million units.
 In March 2015, the song Bitch Better Have My Money was released. The song got a lot of attention after the release of the music video telling a bloody kidnapping story, in which actor Mads Mikkelsen plays a role

Entry in the fashion industry and Cosmetic section

In March 2014, Rihanna appeared on the cover of American Vogue for the third time and in June 2014 received the "Style Icon" award from editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. The head of the jury, Steven Kolb, justifies the choice thus: "Rihanna is the most exciting fashion representative of our time and has a great influence on the fashion industry as well as on pop culture." In mid-March 2015, it was announced that Rihanna was the new advertising face for fashion brand Dior. She also became Puma's global ambassador for "Women's Training" and creative director. Since 2015 she has also been working for the American underwear and socks brand Stance. In the same year, Rihanna presented her Fenty x Puma collection, which was created in collaboration with the sporting goods manufacturer Puma. 
In September, Rihanna launched her cosmetics company Fenty Beauty, which offers makeup for different skin tones. In May, she introduced an underwear label called Savage X Fenty. This was followed by her first fashion show at New York Fashion Week in September, where she presented pregnant models. 

Actress career

At the end of August 2010, filming began on the action movie Battleship. Rihanna played a supporting role in this film as Petty Officer Raines, for which she received the 2013 Golden Raspberry for Worst Supporting Actress. 
In February 2017, the 5th season of Bates Motel was aired, in which Rihanna plays a supporting role. Likewise, she had a small role in the feature film Valerian - The City of a Thousand Planets alongside Cara Delevingne. In June 2018, she played a gangster named Nine Ball in the heist film Ocean's 8 alongside Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway. Since April 2019, Rihanna can be seen alongside actor Donald Glover in the thriller Guava Island on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video.

Fenty Beauty

Together with the French luxury goods group LVMH, Rihanna launched her own fashion label called Fenty in Paris in May 2019. The first collection includes sunglasses, jewelry and shoes. She is the first woman to develop a brand for LVMH and the first black female head designer at the helm of a fashion house. In September, the second Savage X Fenty show was held at New York Fashion Week, the show is streamed on Amazon Prime Video, and lingerie is available on Amazon. In October, her autobiography titled Rihanna was published by Phaidon. In December, she won an award from the British Fashion Council at the British Fashion Awards in London for her fashion label Fenty. In July 2020, Rihanna released her main skincare line under the name Fenty Skin. In October 2020, the third Savage X Fenty show aired for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Public awareness

At the beginning of her career, Rihanna had the image of a reggae musician. In addition, she was often compared with Beyoncé Knowles, which Rihanna herself considered negative, because she was often called a "copy" of Knowles. According to media reports at the time, the two artists' looks and musical style in particular resembled each other.

With the release of her third studio album, Good Girl Gone Bad, the artist's public image changed. This image change was reflected in her music as well as in her public appearance. Achievements

Rihanna set several records in the German singles charts and in the Billboard Hot 100. In November 2008, for example, eight songs from her album Good Girl Gone Bad were on the Hot 100 charts at the same time, something only Shania Twain had previously achieved. From June 8, 2007 to May 15, 2009, she was on the German singles charts for 100 weeks without interruption, longer than any other artist. This puts her in third place behind Michael Jackson and the Backstreet Boys. In the British charts, she holds the record for the longest number one position with Umbrella. In addition, she is the only artist with a total of eight number one placements in the Billboard Pop Songs in the USA. In 2010, Rihanna placed in the Guinness Book of Records as the "Best-Selling Download Female Artist in the U.K." with the success of her single Umbrella. Having already placed in the Guinness Book of Records in 2010, Rihanna also managed to place in the 2012 edition as the "Artist with the Most Number One Hits in a Year" with her four number one hits in the Billboard Hot 100 in 2010
